Southern California is the mecca of the surf industry?we all know this. ?We get up early to surf before work and we head straight to the beach after we punch out. We make it a point to support ?brands? which are mostly based in this region, too? by wearing the gear they craft, and we know what it means to do our part to keep the industry thriving by shopping at local surf shops. That said, as part of our on-going, in-depth regional retail report, we figured what better ?place to start our research than Orange County.

There?s no shortage of retailers in this region, and we were able to touch base with a wide?variety this week, running the gamut from the retro shop, to the under-the-radar surf shop, to the old school shop.? TransWorld Business set out to talk to a spectrum of retailers in the region, looking particularly at common trends, this season?s sales, which brands are standing out these days, the local market, and a myriad of topics that we thought our readers would be interested in learning.

Most of the retailers would agree that styles are becoming more inline with mainstream fashion, while still keeping the ?back-to-the-basics? roots. ?Surfside Sport?s Meredith Peterson says, ?The styles are becoming more fashion forward?they want to be at the beach during the day and go out at night. Companies are doing a great job of providing styles that work with this kind of lifestyle?a lifestyle we see so commonly in Orange County.?
