Make room for visiting friends and family with a sleeper sofa that ...

Sleeper sofas can help increase the versatility of a space. Unfortunately, too many of them are rather uncomfortable (that bar in the middle is awful!). We have a Crate & Barrel sofa bed that is very comfortable to sit on in its sofa form. But when the sleeper part comes out it's so uncomfortable that we have to put an air mattress on top of it to make it remotely welcoming for guests.

Some of these Scandinavian designs look as though they would make comfortable beds (like the Knap sofa bed in picture #5). But it seems pretty uncomfortable to curl up in with a book. Are there any recommendations of couches that are comfortable to sit in and relax, as well as to turn in to a bed that's not embarrassing to have guests sleep in?
