Chinese Film Distributor SMI Names Cheng Chi Chung As CEO, Splitting Key Roles

SMI,? the Chinese movie? producer and distributor whose chairman Qin Hong was highlighted on the cover of Forbes Asia in February of last year, has named Cheng Chi Chung as its new CEO, replacing Qin.

SMI said in a statement yesterday the move is in line with the split of the chairman and CEO roles described in the Hong Kong Stock Exchange code on corporate governance. Qin will remain chairman.

Cheng is a Taiwan college graduate who is currently a vice president at SMI.?? Before joining SMI, he was an executive at Beijing Gome Online , China Seven Star Shopping and Eastern Broadcasting, among other businesses.

The movers and shakers of China?s film industry will be gathering in Shanghai later this month for the Shanghai International Film Festival. ?
