Suspected Chinese Spy Earned Big in Real Estate Business ? Real ...

The Japanese police tried to detain Chinese diplomat, Li Chunguang who was suspected of engaging in espionage activities in Japan. Li Chuguang left the country after he was requested by the police to turn himself in, on suspicions of being a spy and conducting illegal commercial activities.

Diplomats are not allowed to do business transactions for personal profit as stated in the Vienna Convention. Violators of Article 42 of the Vienna Convention would face heavy consequences and if proven guilty of such things, Li Chuguang will definitely face charges.

Before the his sudden return to China, Li Chunguang worked as first secretary of the Chinese embassy in Tokyo. It was also reported that he earned about 300,000 yen or $5,000 a month from renting apartments in a residential building that he bought in Chiba.

Aside from this, it was also reported that he bought a two-story apartment building in Hanamigawa Ward, Chiba, which he paid around 40 million yen and sources also confirmed that the tenants of the said apartment building are mainly Chinese. Reports say that he worked with a local real estate agency for the said transaction, so as not to be caught by authorities.

Having all these properties didn?t stop the Chinese diplomat in purchasing more. He also bought a condominium in the Chuo Ward that costs 12 million yen through the same agency. Li Chunguang was said to be a member of a Chinese intelligence unit? at the Chinese People?s Liberation Army. But his purchases of properties in Japan have caught the attention of the authorities which led to his pursuit.
